Ittihad claim Crown Prince Cup

JEDDAH, 3 May — Local favorites Al-Ittihad outplayed Eastern Province challengers Al-Ittifaq 3-0 in the final to claim the Crown Prince Cup soccer title here yesterday.


Ittihad are thus in line for a double as they will be meeting Al-Nasr in the final of the King’s Cup.


The 45,000 spectators packing the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here had to wait till the 58th minute of the match before the first goal.


Al-Hassan Al-Yami found the mark when fed the ball by Muhammad Nour to the great delight of the Ittihad fans.


Four minutes later, Ittihad added to their tally when Al-Hassan was fouled in the box and Italian Jelsi converted the penalty.


Two minutes later, a blunder by defender Hilal Sameer found his header going into an empty goal and gave Ittihad a comfortable 3-0 lead which they maintained till the end.


This is the sixth time that Ittihad have won the Crown
