TEHRAN, 29 May — Saudi Arabia and Iran yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in scientific and higher education areas.
The MoU was signed by visiting Higher Education Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Anqari and his Iranian counterpart Dr. Mustafa Mueen. Al-Anqari said the MoU would strengthen cooperation between the two Islamic countries.
According to the terms and conditions of the MoU, Riyadh and Tehran will exchange scientific documents, films, publications, pictures and topics related to history, culture and geography. “The two countries will encourage visits by scientific experts to get acquainted with the methodology of education in each other’s universities,” a press statement issued after the signing ceremony said.
It said the two countries would encourage visits of student delegations, promote student activities and provide scholarships to capable students.
The MoU, valid for a five-year period and will be renewed automatically with the consent of both sides, also provides for holding cultural weeks, seminars and book shows in the two countries.
Al-Anqari visited Iranian universities and met with their rectors. He admired the progress achieved by Iranian educational institutions. Mueen has accepted an invitation to visit Saudi Arabia.
