MANILA, 2 June - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has reported that for the first three months of the year, it had suspended 99 erring recruitment agencies. At the moment, there are 1,225 licensed agencies in good standing, of which 862 are land-based agencies and 363 are manning agencies.
For the first three months of the year, the POEA issued 44 new licenses, renewed 89 existing ones and inspected 458 private recruitment agencies.
The POEA, however, is also concerned with the administrative cases regarding pre-employment concerns. The POEA "primarily works for the speedy resolution of cases lodged before it for decision."
Of the total 1,771 cases it is now handling, a total of 1,087 cases were pending at the beginning of the year while the remaining 684 cases were filed since then.
The newly filed cases are either categorized as 502 recruitment violations and 182 disciplinary cases.
It has a disposition rate of 34.5 percent which was 0.33 percentage points higher than the same period last year's disposition rate.
