RIYADH, 6 June — The new Shoura Council, which held its first session here yesterday, said the inaugural speech by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd on Monday broadly outlined the Kingdom’s domestic and foreign policies.
“King’s address in the opening session will illuminate the council’s path forward in the coming years,” said Muhammad ibn Jubair whose term of office as council’s chairman has been renewed. Dr. Bakri ibn Shatta, the new vice chairman, and all members of the council were present. The meeting set up various subcommittees for the next four years.
Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Abdul Qader ibn Abdul Hayy Kamal will head the Security Affairs Committee, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ginaibit will chair the Economic Affairs Committee and Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Jaafari, the Financial Affairs Committee.
Dr. Bandar Al-Ayban chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee, Dr. Huzam Al-Otaibi, the Services and Public Utilities Committee, Farhan Al-Balawi, the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee.
Dr. Salih ibn Abdul Malik will be the chairman of the Social, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee and Dr. Ahmad Al-Debaib, the Cultural and Information Committee.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Naim chairs the Committee for Regulations and Administration, Dr. Salih Al-Ali, the Islamic Affairs Committee and Dr. Eid Al-Shammari the Educational Affairs Committee.
The Security Affairs Committee comprises Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Yousef ibn Muhammad Madani, deputy chairman, and Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ibrahim Al-Maiman, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Hussein Al-Damir, Dr. Hamad Al-Shagroud, Dr. Suleiman Al-Mazrou, Shobaili Al-Qarni, Dr. Saleh Al-Zahrani, Dr. Abdul Jaleel Al-Saif, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Abdullah Al-Harbi, and Dr. Abdullah Al-Othaimin as members.
Muhammad Al-Sharif is the deputy chairman of the Finance Committee. Its members are Suleiman Al-Khereiji, Dr. Saleh Al-Omair, Abdul Rahman ibn Ibrahim Al-Humaid, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Oraiar, Abdullah Al-Hoqail, Dr. Muhammad Buhaliqah, Muhammad ibn Abdul Lateef, Mansour ibn Abdul Gaffar and Yousef Al-Maimani.
The Economic Committee will have Dr. Shuwaish Al-Mutairi as deputy chairman. Its members are Ibrahim ibn Abdullah Salama, Osama ibn Kurdi, Dr. Bandar ibn Muhammad Hajar, Dr. Saud Al-Mathami, Taha Al-Ghanemi, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Zamil, Emad Al-Hujailan, Dr. Fahd Al-Mubarak and Mustafa ibn Hussein Mushayt.
The deputy chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee is Dr. Yousef Al-Salloum. Its members are Abdul Muhsen Al-Akkas, Dr. Ahmad Al-Tuwaijeri, Dr. Badr Al-Amaj, Dr. Bashir Al-Goraid, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Fayez, Dr. Abdul Aziz Khayyat, Dr. Othman Al-Rawaf and Dr. Muhammad Al-Halwah.
The general assembly of the council will meet regularly on Sundays and Tuesdays while the steering committee will hold its weekly sittings on Saturdays. The special committees will meet on Mondays. (SPA)
