JEDDAH, 7 June — A vast range of French naval power is on display at an exhibition of photographs and models at the Cultural Center of the Consulate General of France.
“The show is aimed at showing off the vast capacity the country has to build various types of naval vessels,” French Consul General Alain Azouaou told Arab News on Tuesday.
The show, which ends on June 12, gives a glimpse of the ship-building capacity of the country both for peace- and war-time use. Fifteen blowups and some models on display give a glimpse of the country’s capability. Exhibits include aircraft carriers, frigates, submarines, surveillance ships, patrolling vessels, as well as those taken during the joint exercises held here last year.
Alain Degenne, director of the Cultural Center and also of the Saudi French Center, said: “The Cultural Center which came up last year-end has since held art exhibitions by Saudi artists and provided a venue for literary and musical programs. It has also become an educational center for young Saudis proceeding to France for studies. They are given orientation on the French traditions, culture and lifestyle.”
An increasing number of local students are attending French language programs promoted at the SFC.
“In fact, local ladies are showing greater interest in taking up French language programs at its Future Center for Ladies,” he said, adding that certified courses offered had been approved by the cultural department of the French Council.
“Through the use of the most modern techniques and the expertise of our teachers, we aim to help the ladies learn to read, speak and write French fluently,” he added.
