JEDDAH, 11 June  — Tabuk Governor Prince Fahd ibn Sultan has called on businessmen to invest in projects to exploit silica deposits recently discovered in his region. He said such investments would help develop the mining sector and improve the economic conditions of the local people.

Speaking after a field visit on Thursday to Taima where the silica deposits have been found, Prince Fahd expressed happiness over the discovery saying it represents a major step toward attracting investments to the region.

Welcoming the visit, Dr. Muhammad ibn Asaad Tawfiq, president of the Saudi Geological Survey, said surveys spearheaded by SGS encouraged drilling activities in the region which, in turn, led to the discovery of silica deposits in an area more than 40 sq km south of Taima town.

Tawfiq said the visit by Prince Fahd reflected his growing interest in regional economic development. Earlier surveys discovered silica deposits in commercial quantities in parts of the Riyadh region.
