30 Saudi OFWs pass licensure exams for mechanical engineers

DAMMAM, 20 June — A total of 30 Filipinos passed the licensure examinations given for mechanical engineers in Dammam and Jeddah last year by the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).


Of the number, 16 passed the test for registered mechanical engineers (RME) and 14 for the professional mechanical engineers’ (PME) examination, a report by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) said.


The RME passers are Edgar Bataluna, Reyne Bejasa, Ceresio dela Cruz, Raul Golpeo, Alan Madlangbayan, Virgilio Magno, Antonio Ofilanda, Rohenio Pangilinan, Dante Plando, Primo de Sagun, Mamerto Tajonera, Cesar Tomas, Elmer Valeroso, Ric Vicente, and Napoleon Villahermosa. 


Their oath-taking ceremony was administered recently by Ambassador Rafael Seguis at the Park Hotel in Al-Khobar.


Rex Catubigan, president of the PSME chapter in the Eastern Province, said the RME passers are from the Eastern and Central regions of the Kingdom.


The new professional mechanical engineers are Leonardo Abian, Alfonso Abordaje, Ernesto Cala, Julio Caringal, Orlando Digma, Teodoro Esca?o, Pedro Lira, Alan Masayon, Froilan Miro, Rizalino Nobleza, Reynaldo Osabel, Efren Rodrigo, Ruben Serrano, and Romeo Vargas.


A press statement from PSME-Western Region officers Willie Leoncio and Muhidin Kome said the PME passers are all from the Western Region.


The RME test was held in Al-Khobar while the PME test was held in Jeddah.


Last year’s licensure tests for mechanical engineers were the second to be administered among Filipinos in the Kingdom by PRC officials.


The tests were arranged by the two PSME chapters, which have been giving continuing professional education to their members.


Catubigan also said review classes for this year’s exams are going on.

Technical symposiums


As part of their continuing program, the PSME  chapter in the Eastern Province will be holding a technical symposium on Industrial Waste Management on June 29 at the Dhahran International Hotel.


“This is to enhance our knowledge, particularly the Filipino mechanical engineers, on how to manage well in disposing of industrial waste,” chapter president Catubigan told Arab News.


The symposium will discuss on how the mechanical engineers can contribute to the environment particularly in Saudi Arabia where it is bounded with industrial plants., according to Catubigan. 


Apart from Catubigan, this year’s PSME-EP officers and directors are: Catubigan, Gil Buna, Benjamin Cesora, Lorenzo Reyes, Lamberto Pablo, Camilo Zacate, Fred Escuadro, Conrado Cruz, Rio Pascasio, Arthur Esmade, Gene Rivere, Murry Demdam, Jeremias Hernandez, Rodolfo Panganiban, Samson Guevarra, and Reynaldo Castillo.


Western Province


In Jeddah, the region’s PSME chapter is also holding a technical seminar entitled: Automated Logic: Bacnet System For Building Automation and Controls.”


The symposium starts at 5 p.m. on June 28 at the Al-Hamra Sofitel Hotel along Palestine Street.


Chapter spokesman Muhidin Kome said the seminar is meant to enhance the knowledge of upgrading controls for systematic building operation and automation. The resource speaker is from Al-Baloushi Trading, one of the leading suppliers of building controls and automation system in the Kingdom.
