RIYADH, 6 February — A Saudi transport plane carrying 140 tons of relief supplies mainly comprising medicines, food materials, blankets, carpets and tents for the victims of India's devastating earthquake, left for Bombay this morning. The first plane-load of relief materials was flown to India last Wednesday.
Wasi Haider Rizvi, chairman of the Riyadh-based International Indian School Managing Committee, said that the school is targeting to raise SR80,000 from the voluntary contributions of the students and the staff members. He said that every student had been asked to pay SR10 towards the relief fund for the quake victims, emphasizing that this was entirely voluntary.
The IISR in cooperation with the Indian mission, Rizvi said, had opened two special counters -- at the boys' section and at the girls section -- to collect donations and relief materials.
