RIYADH, 21 February — One of the Kingdom's leading hospitals is providing free vaccination against meningitis to those planning to go for Haj. "The initiative supports the pilgrims' vaccination campaign undertaken by the Ministry of Health," Dr.George Zajac, consultant, Family and Preventive Medicine at Kingdom Hospital, said.
He said that since Haj is starting on March 3, cardholders should contact the hospital immediately on 2750677 for an appointment to receive vaccine against meningitis, a fatal disease which may lead to deafness, mental retardation and even death.
The vaccination program coincides with the health ministry's campaign to create public awareness among the pilgrims, especially in terms of maintaining cleanliness at ritual sites, consuming hygienic food, and taking precautionary measures in congested areas.
"Our hospital is offering vaccination for everyone over two years of age. A vaccine for children between three months and two years of age must be obtained at other vaccination centers, " Dr. Zajac said. -- Javid Hassan
