JEDDAH, 2 March — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed said pilgrims would be taken to Al-Jamrat for pelting stones in separate batches for each nationality, according to a newspaper yesterday. “The procedure, which was based on studies made by the King Fahd Institute for Haj Research, proved a success last year and will be implemented this year. The convergence of pilgrims in huge numbers at a single point at the same time creates some difficulty for the aged and women,” Al-Watan quoted Prince Abdul Majeed as saying. The institute has also been making studies on the ways to curb the practice of pilgrims squatting near the Jamrat bridge, the prince said. The prince also said some small vehicles used in the Haj would give rapid access to very narrow places.
