DUBAI, 17 July — Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2001, now well into the fourth theme week, continues to startle visitors with entertainment as well as educational activities at shopping malls and other climate-controlled venues, offering visitors and residents avenues for fun and shopping during the 10-week promotion that ends on Aug. 31. Launched three years ago, DSS has successfully changed the face of summers in Dubai and promoted inbound tourism through a highly innovative and entertainment program spanning the entire summer. The first three theme weeks — Ice Surprises, Food Surprises and Techno Surprises — threw up a host of unique and exciting events that saw hordes of people rushing to mall and other indoor venues. Now the Water Surprises, which concludes tomorrow, is making a splash with a host of special activities, including the Rain Forest at the Airport Exp. Dubai; Water Ski shows by Stars of Florida group in Dubai Creek; and Telematch games, Acrobat Basketball shows at Al Ghurair City and water-based activities at different malls. Meanwhile, Modhesh Fun City, has been providing a host of fun activities and live entertainment for children throughout summer at the Dubai World Trade Center. (AN)
