Sharm El Sheikh, 17 July — Leading hotelier Adel Bibars has been appointed general manager of the Sheraton Sharm Hotel, Resort and Villas on the Red Sea, one of the most prestigious resort properties in the Middle East. An industry veteran who joined the Sheraton group in 1982, Bibars’ previous posting was as general manager of the Sheraton Makkah. He was also director of sales at Sheraton Doha when it opened two decades ago and is well known in the UAE for his involvement in the opening of the first Four Points hotel outside the US, the property now the Sheraton Deira. He takes the reins of the spectacular hotel in Egypt at a time when the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh is booming, thanks primarily to tourists and the corporate conference market. Visitors are mainly from Europe, particularly Italy, but there has been a major influx of Gulf nationals in recent times, especially in the family sector, he added. (AN)
