ISLAMABAD, 18 July — President Pervez Musharraf has called a special meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) and the federal Cabinet here today to discuss the Agra summit.

The president has convened the meeting in order to take his aides and policymakers into confidence about his trip to India.

Musharraf will brief this joint meeting on his discussions with the top Indian leadership on the contentious issue of Kashmir. He is expected to broach the sensitive issue of what exactly led the Agra summit talks to collapse. Musharraf will also share with the NSC and Cabinet members what the military government sees as the outcome of the Agra summit, which has been seen as a “failure”. Provincial governors, services chiefs and the federal ministers are expected to attend the meeting.
