JEDDAH, 18 July — The King Fahd Qur’an Printing Complex in Madinah has printed more than 165 million copies of the Holy Book, including translations, since its establishment 21 years ago. Of this, 142 million copies have already been distributed all over the world.
The complex had also sent Qur’an copies to countries with Muslim minorities, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, which supervises the complex, said.
In addition to the Holy Qur’an, the complex prints over 90 publications in different languages. They include collections on the Sunnah and Seerat — the teachings and biography of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — and Islamic studies, a ministry statement said.
The complex has so far completed the translation of the meaning of the Holy Qur’an in 28 languages including local dialects spoken in remote areas of Africa and Asia. This brings the number of languages in use at the complex to 39.
The meaning of the Holy Qur’an is now available in languages used in Indonesia, Bosnia, Nigeria, Thailand, South Africa, Korea, Macedonia and China and others. It is also available in cassettes.
The statement said some two million people from all over the world visited the complex to gain firsthand information on “this great Isalmic achievement.”
Every Muslim pilgrim coming to the Kingdom for the annual Haj is presented with a copy of the Holy Qur’an. (AWB)
