RIYADH, 23 July — “Have you set your goal: what, where, when, who and how will you be after years working abroad?

“How financially viable are you?

“Have you thought of other options in case you suddenly get terminated from your current job?”

These, and other topics, will be discussed in another free educational seminar being organized by the Riyadh-based Mother movement.

Scheduled on Aug. 17, the one-day event with the theme “Enlightenment, Enhancement & Enrichment in an Environment of Multi-Cultural Diversity,” is open to Mother members and all interested OFWs.

“The objective is to focus attention to the practical ways and means essential for the OFWs to optimize their stay overseas,” said Mother chair Perla S. Vega.

Among the resource speakers who have confirmed their participation are Philippine Airlines country manager Ruperto “Jun” Ordillano; Ricardo Roda, senior relationship manager of Arab National Bank’s corporate banking group; and Vice Consul Celeste Balatbat and Cultural Attaché Carmelita “Baby” Hidalgo.

Resource speakers from the Eastern Province have likewise given their commitments, as arranged by Saudi Aramco training officer Ransam Pirote, an engineer who is one of the popular leaders of the Filipino community in Al-Khobar.

Also included in the day’s activities is the start of the two-month Mother Free Self-Defense Clinic to be offered by Phil Aiki Kai, Riyadh, as confirmed by Sensei Jun Samantela, who has the support of 19 instructors and assistants.  Those interested in participating in the seminar may call Vega at (01) 442-6774, or send an e-mail to [email protected].

Founded in Riyadh, the Mother movement is being spread among Filipino women around the world to help train members on how to avoid or defend themselves from sexual assaults or molestation.

Last Friday, the Parent-Teachers’ Association of the Riyadh International School formed its own Mother chapter, adding to the growing list of the movement’s members.

The new chapter’s officers are: Elsie Torreno, president; Erlinda F. Songcuya, vice president; Cristina J. Esguerra, secretary; Carmencita L. Torrillos, assistant secretary; Jeana O. David, treasurer; Perciveranda Cervantes, assistat treasurer; Lher P. Dantes, PRO; Reynaldo G. Rodriguez, assistant PRO; Renato C. Escocio, auditor; and Francia Noble, assistant auditor. (A.N.)
