RIYADH, 24 July — Seven Emiratis were killed and 10 others injured in two separate accidents in the Kingdom, a newspaper reported yesterday.
On the road between the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, all five members of a family died when their car overturned because of speeding. They were heading to Makkah to perform Umrah, Al-Bilad newspaper said.
In the second accident, two people were killed and 10 others hurt, all from the same Emirati family, when their van collided with a car on the road between Riyadh and Taif.
Saudi Arabia has one of the world’s highest rates of road accidents, according to figures released by the Traffic Department.
Three people were killed and 17 injured in two accidents elsewhere in the country, according to press reports on Sunday. Two people were killed and seven injured when their car overturned on Baha-Taif Road, Al-Riyadh Arabic daily said. In Bani Malik, a woman died and 10 members of her family were injured when the van they were traveling overturned on the same road, Al-Riyadh said. Tire bursts were blamed for both the accidents. (AN)
