RIYADH, 26 July — The Kingdom will hold a high-profile international Qur’an memorization, interpretation and recitation contest as part of its efforts to promote learning of the Holy Book by youngsters on a global level. The “King Abdul Aziz International Qur’an Memorization Competition” will be held in Makkah from Oct. 20 to 28. A statement released by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said the competition would be open to male participants below the age of 25. Scholars and teachers of Qur’an who are well known in their countries will not be allowed to take part. A sum of SR888,000 has been earmarked as prize money.
