ISLAMABAD, 3 August — A former senior official of the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL), Amin Jan, was sentenced to five years and huge fines with confiscation of his properties on graft charges as the National Accountability Bureau declined his request of plea-bargain. The court announced its verdict other day, though Jan’s case is being described as a success in NAB’s drive to punish those officials who have been caught in corruption cases. Senior officials reveal several startling facts in the Amin Jan case and how he ruthlessly amassed his wealth through illegal means. Investigations conducted by some professional investigators, said the official, resulted in sentencing the former PTCL official in graft case, with confiscation of his properties and a fine of 15 million rupees. Sometime back, Jan’s wife requested NAB chairman for settlement of issue, though the request was not accepted to for obvious reasons.
