RAFHA, 11 August — A Jordanian driver, 59, perished when his Mercedes trailer hit a truck at the entrance of Rafha on Thursday, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported. The Jordanian was apparently driving at high speed, and his trailer rammed into a truck carrying barley bags. A rescue team from the Civil Defense Department rushed to the site of the accident and saved the life of the truck driver, a Turk, the paper added. In Buraidah, sandstorms reduced visibility on Thursday and caused a number of accidents. Many trees have fallen onto streets, further hampering traffic in the city. Also on Thursday, Muhammad Saleh Al-Shahry, a school teacher in the southern city of Khamees Mushayt, died in a horrific car accident on his way to Jizan to offer condolences to another family. Al-Shahry was traveling with his wife on Prince Abdullah Road leading to the airport. “On a sharp bend, his car overturned several times when it sped off the road,” the Ozak newspaper reported. Al-Shahry died at the hospital. His wife escaped with minor injuries.
