RIYADH, 18 August — Saudi Arabia has banned import of all types of firecrackers to prevent the dangers caused by them, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. It said Interior Minister Prince Naif has already approved a proposal made by a special committee set up to study the use of firecrackers by children.

The committee recommended that the import of firecrackers through the Kingdom’s entry points be prevented. The Commerce Ministry has distributed a circular to all chambers of commerce to stop the import of firecrackers.

Those who violate the rule will be given deterrent punishment, the paper said.
