HAIL, 27 August — Police in Hail have arrested a Saudi for allegedly killing his mother-in-law and an eight-year-old boy, and injuring his wife.

Police mounted an intensive manhunt after the crime was reported and tracked the man down to a deserted farm located on the outskirts of Hail city.

“Security officers arrested the alleged killer without causing any injuries, although the man was carrying a gun,” an official statement said.

The man had earlier threatened police that he would kill them if they followed him after he stormed into the family house in Hail’s Aziziya district.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday evening and the security officers arrested him on Friday. He had been holding out at a farm in Hareer village, 40 kilometers north of Hail.

The crime took place after the man was released from prison 10 days ago, where he had been since his wife’s family filed a case against him following a domestic dispute.

Primary investigations indicate that the man intended to kill only his wife and her mother, but the boy was caught in the crossfire. The wife sustained injuries to her right thigh.

According to Al-Watan newspaper, a Shariah court ordered the man to divorce his wife following the domestic dispute. The court also gave his wife custody of their children.

The mother-in-law helped her daughter to file for divorce after the man had become addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti man burned his sister to death, with the help of his mother and another sister, in the central Saudi city of Majmaa, Al-Riyadh Arabic newspaper reported yesterday.

He poured petrol over his sister, set her on fire and left her to burn to death. The man, his mother and the other sister had taken the victim outside the main town to waste ground on Friday to carry out their crime.

The alleged killer also sustained serious burns due to his sister’s resistance, and was hospitalized. The hospital authorities informed police of his arrival and at the same time police got another call from a shepherd informing them that he had found a burned corpse.
