RIYADH, 16 September — Saudi Arabia’s grand mufti yesterday condemned the terror attacks in the United States and said the perpetrators would earn the “wrath of God.” “Muslims who abide by Islamic teachings must stay away from such acts, otherwise they will face the wrath of Allah,” Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh said.
“The explosions which took place in the US, and similar incidents like hijacking planes, terrorizing people and killing others without any strong reason... are unacceptable and will never be endorsed by Islam, because they are totally forbidden and are major sins,” he said.
Al-Sheikh, who also heads the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars, urged international media to stop defaming Islam and Muslims by linking them with terrorism. “The media organizations which try to defame Islam and Muslims so as to rally the feelings of the different nations against them, should immediately stop this unacceptable and unjustifiable practice,” he added.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz quoted verses from the Holy Qur’an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which forbids Muslims from doing wrong and injustice to others. “O ye who believe, stand out firmly for Allah as just witnesses; and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just; that is nearer to piety; and fear Allah.”(Al-Maida: 8) “A Muslim who is aware of the teachings of Islam and the directives of the Holy Qur’an and the Prophet’s teachings will never involve himself in such terrorist acts,” Sheikh Abdul Aziz said. He urged Islamic scholars to tell the world that Islam never accepts such acts.
