NEW YORK, 5 October — American authorities released on Tuesday a Saudi Arabian Airlines pilot who was arrested at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport two days after the devastating attacks in New York and Washington. He was charged with carrying a forged pilot’s license.

The attorney appointed by the Saudi Embassy in Washington said Abdul Aziz Al-Anqari was released on bail after the authorities were convinced that he was not involved in the terrorist attacks though they wanted him to stay in a hotel until all formalities of the investigation were completed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation wanted him to remain under custody to serve as a material witness after it was found that his license was in order. Al-Anqari was arrested while he was on his way to Long Beach in California to attend a routine training course at the Boeing training center.
