DAMMAM, 11 October — A major traffic accident on the Dammam-Alkhobar highway involving nearly a dozen cars caused traffic chaos during the morning rush hour yesterday.
At around 7.30 a.m., a collision between two cars near the Saudi Electric Company resulted in a pile-up involving eleven other cars.
However, there were no reports of injuries.
On the highway linking Dammam with Alkhobar, traffic in both directions is heavy during the morning hours as thousands of people commute daily between the two cities and school buses take children to their schools.
Swift action on the part of the traffic department eased the traffic congestion in about 20 minutes.
The traffic department has been warning commuters not to speed on the highway, which has witnessed several accidents — in which there have been fatalities — during the past few months.
The Traffic Department says that most of the accidents were caused by speeding and reckless overtaking.
