DAMMAM, 11 October — The US Consulate in Dhahran has denied a report that appeared in certain sections of the local press that an American wounded in Saturday’s blast in Alkhobar had died.

According to a consulate official, the wounded American, Juan Filin, is in fact reported to be out of danger and may be discharged soon.

Two people, one of them an American, died in the bomb blast in downtown Alkhobar on Saturday evening. Five others — two Filipinos, a Briton, a Pakistani and an American — were injured.

According to the Philippine Embassy, both the Filipinos are in a stable condition.

The Pakistan Embassy has not given details about the extent to which the Pakistani, named as Mustafa Akbar, was injured, but both he and the Briton are also reported to be out of serious danger.

The identity of the second fatality has yet to be disclosed. The Philippine Embassy is denying that the victim is Filipino. All that is known is that the second victim is of Asian origin.

Security in the region has been beefed up and road blocks are still in place at major entry and exit points.

Life in the twin cities of Dammam and Alkhobar has otherwise returned to normal.
