JEDDAH, 30 October — The Jeddah Municipality received 10 ambulances yesterday. Nine of them were given by Abdul Latif Jameel Group and the remaining one on behalf of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Ismail Abu Dawood.
Mayor Abdullah Al-Muallami received the vehicles from Muhammad Jameel of the ALJ group at a ceremony at the Toyota Showroom on Madinah Road.
The mayor said the Toyota Hi Ace vehicles would go a long way in further improving the city’s ambulatory and charity services. He thanked the ALJ group in general and Muhammad Jameel and Abu Dawood in particular for their gesture.
Making a symbolic presentation of the keys of the vehicles to the mayor, Muhammad Jameel said the city was proud of its municipality and "it’s a moment of pride for us to supplement the efforts of the civic body in providing humanitarian services."
Later, Faisal Aoushasha, director support services at ALJ, told a press conference that the company had launched a customer satisfaction campaign, especially with regard to the Toyota Landcruiser Station Wagon (Diesel).
The campaign is in the wake of the company’s recall of Landcruiser Station Wagon HDJ80 and JDJ 100 series equipped with the 1HD-FT or 1HD-FTE diesel engine produced during the period of December 1994 through August 1998. The total number of affected vehicles in overseas markets is about 15,000 units. "Saudi Arabia is not involved in this as the ALJ Co. has not imported them here," he added.
There had been no reported cases of accidents related to these vehicles, he said, adding that owners of such vehicles would receive a campaign notification by mail or telephone.
