RIYADH, 31 October — A total of 140 boys and girls drawn from the four Indian schools in the Kingdom took part in the annual inter-school sports and cultural competition, dubbed the Cluster Meet, which was inaugurated here yesterday with great fanfare.
The three-day competitions were originally scheduled to take place at the International Indian School in Jeddah from Sept. 25. The Indian Embassy called off the event citing "logistical and administrative" problems.
The decision met with severe criticism from both parents and students alike, and embassy officials later rescheduled the event with a change of venue.
Manzar Jamal Siddiqui, principal of the International Indian School, Riyadh, which is now hosting the event, said the school authorities had made all arrangements for the accommodation of participating students.
He said students from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Jubail are taking part. The Taif school backed out of the competition on account of "some problems".
Siddiqui said some of the track and field competitions were not being held because of the lack of ground facilities at the Indian schools here.
