RIYADH, 31 October — Anti-fraud squads from the Commerce Ministry seized large quantities of imitation spare parts for American cars made in Taiwan from a warehouse in Riyadh on Monday. The inspectors of the ministry’s department dealing with commercial fraud also discovered several boxes of printed labels.

In another search, the anti-imitation inspectors seized from a press several printing plates for well-known brands and CDs, in addition to pornographic pictures.

Inspectors of the ministry’s branch in Jizan meanwhile raided a warehouse which violated regulations by stocking food unfit for human consumption.

The workers were caught red-handed while re-packing food in containers which carried false labels.

Inspectors found several shops selling spoiled foods in a warehouse where 4,450 cartons of 17 different kinds of food were being packed in new boxes. The manager of the warehouse has been summoned by police for further questioning.

Consumers are being urged not to buy goods from the market without first checking the details on the packet, particularly the dates of manufacture and validity.

Muhammad Abdul Hadi Al-Amri, chairman of Rafha municipality, said his officials had destroyed 320 kg of contaminated food and seized 1,333 liters of oil and other liquid food after inspecting 478 shops.
