RIYADH, 12 November — A Saudi security source yesterday confirmed the arrest of three Kuwaitis on suspicion of involvement in militant activities, but dismissed as "idle press speculation" reports that the authorities had broken up cells of Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network.
The three Kuwaitis currently being interrogated have so far not been charged with having committed a crime, the source added without giving further details.
There had been press speculation that the Kingdom had broken up an Al-Qaeda cell by arresting several Bin Laden supporters. "Saudi police are interrogating a number of individuals, without actually detaining them. They are allowed to go as soon as it becomes clear that there is no proof against them," the source added.
Interior Minister Prince Naif said on Oct. 20 that "a small number of Saudis" had been detained and interrogated about their possible links to Bin Laden, but he added that they did not threaten the Kingdom’s security.
