RIYADH, 26 November — They came, they dined, and they deplaned.

That’s the long and short of what happened on Riyadh-bound SV1088 flight from Jeddah that never took off.

It all started after the passengers had boarded an aircraft that was set to depart from King Abdul Aziz International Airport at 2.10 a.m. yesterday.

After being kept waiting on board for an hour, it was announced that there was some technical problem with the aircraft and that the passengers would have to disembark and take another flight. Meanwhile, they were served suhoor at 3 a.m.

All of them were transferred to another aircraft that finally landed at King Khaled International Airport at 6 a.m., three hours behind schedule.

A general comment made by one passenger was: "How come they discovered the problem only after the passengers had checked in? Is the aircraft not supposed to be inspected well before its scheduled flight?"
