RIYADH, 2 December — The Advanced Electronics Company (AEC), a firm established under the Saudi Offset program, has developed a high-precision digital clock in cooperation with the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). The clock shows Hijrah and Gregorian dates and prayer time.
A prototype of the clock was presented to Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, by Dr. Saleh Al-Athel, president of KACST, and Abdul Aziz Al-Sugair, executive president of AEC in the presence of a number of senior officials at the Advanced Electronics Company and KACST as well as advisers at the royal court.
Prince Abdullah commended the project and urged the officials to make use of the expertise of Saudi youths in such innovative projects. The clock, which is to serve Muslims all over the world, will be available in the market soon.
AEC is a leading electronics company in the Arab world and its clients include the military.
It has received the highest quality certifications, including ISO9001, Gold status from Boeing, Star status from Lockheed Martin, and Class (A) from Lucent Technologies.
The company, having succeeded in employing Saudis in 75 percent of jobs, has won the Prince Naif Prize for Saudization for the year 2000.
