TRIVANDRUM, 5 December — Excitement over the new Kerala Assembly website fizzled out within hours of its launch as hackers wreaked havoc by posting pornographic pictures on its pages. The state’s 140 assembly members had eagerly gathered Monday to witness the launch of the site, www.niyamasabha.org, set up in just six months by Speaker V. Purushothaman.
But within hours reports surfaced that the site had been hacked and in place of one of the related links — the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation homepage — was a prominent porn site, www.actor in charge of the site, K. Rajeevan of Asianet Satellite Codultcity.com. The operations authorities, after initially claiming ignorance of the hacking, eventually confirmed the reports.
“We have blocked the site and we are launching an inquiry to find out who has played the mischief,” Rajeevan said. Opposition legislator P.C. George said he was troubled to hear of the incident and feared that the site would be continually hacked. Reports indicate that the speaker would launch an inquiry into the episode.
