JEDDAH, 7 December — MODA Defenders were seething with vengeance venting their ire on the Cardinals 95-72 after losing a winning game the other week while GulfMaid walked another tightrope escaping with a 72-71 win over Al-Yanabie and host Saudi Tel Co. shipped out The Captain 83-60. Completed games at the Al-Nuzhla district gym saw Thalia Nuggets polished off Burger King, 71-69, DENSO feasted on Al-Joon Restaurant, 94-89 and Hydraulic City thumped SPS-Kodak 95-77.
The MODA Defenders under coach Pete Roblo relied on ace gunner who Mangune hit 34 points. Nanquil had a good offensive night delivering 22 to lead two others scoring in double figures, Malibiran and Cantona with 17 and 11. The Cardinals who were hampered by a slow start trailing 13-24 in the first quarter was led by Gamazon (20), Propeta (14) and Garcia (13.)
The GulfMaid Disers mentored by Rene Valle had veterans Romy Tamayo and Valencia picking up the slack for their usually reliable younger teammates hitting 22 and 17 to show that they still have plenty of juice to squeeze and could be relied on when a close game is on the line as their one-point victory over Al-Yanabie came in the wake of a vicious injury to the Advertisers’ Magpayo. Joaquin (21), Angoring (17) and Collado (15) took the scoring cudgels for coach Joseph Villanueva’s Al-Yanabie 3-M who fought valiantly but fell short in the end.
Marlo Reyes again was the leading scorer for host Saudi Tel Co. submitting 21 markers but unlike their losing campaign the previous week was successful this time around mangling The Captain restaurant by 23 points. Fetalcorin and Medina chipped in 15 and 11. Cornejo led the losing effort of the restaurateurs with 16.
In a match decided at the free throw line Thalia Nuggets’ Lacsamana showed tremendous grace as he sank two pressure-laden gift shots in edging their rivals by two points. Quemada led the Nuggets with 23 and Lacsamana 22 while Deang and Abdullah had 22 and 17 for Burger King.
Hydraulic City sent SPS-Kodak reeling to its second straight loss with Jonjon Ramirez sinking 20 points as Geolin Adonis and Ricky Manacmol provided offensive help with 12 and 11. Marcelino (22), Cruz (15) and Cardano (11) were the bright spots off coach Rhic Briones’ line-up who engaged the victors to a close 37-38 battle at the end of the first half but could not sustain the brisk pace that Hydraulic City dictated in the second half.
DENSO’s Quintana and Colibao combined for 40 points as they survived the red-hot sniping of Atienza who collected 37 points for the losing Al-Joon Restaurant.
