JEDDAH, 7 December — The 21st week in the BBG Tuesday Night Bowling League here at the 24-lane Jeddah Bowling Center produced thrilling games and exciting finishes.
Al Alamiah star bowler Hashim Guinomla again unleashed his best shots and burned Jeddah Bowling Center with series of strikes. He set ablaze lanes 11 and 12 with his incredible spins, fired 258, 266, and 233 and claimed the bowler of the week award at a series of 757.
The spotlight, however was taken by Class ‘C’ bowler Ramis Ayoub when he flashed his sterling performances and led Al Ahadal Establishment in scoring 82 points to take the pole position for the week’s top prize.
Ayoub drilled a 3-game series of 752 including handicap and claimed the prize in the individual category in accordance with the existing rules. He scored 225, 246 and 247, which were fortified by his 28-pin handicap per game. The prize for the team of the week was awarded to the group with an emblem of four question marks and one exclamation point (????!) captained by Bob Oleski.
D’Amigos quartet of Danny Manriza, Vic Abadiano, Wilson Triguerro and Armando Beltran immediately dazzled on lanes 15 and 16, rolled-off their best shot for 22 points (904). Otra Cosa, the bewildered opponent, could only manage to collect 13 points through the pair of Bert Rodillo and Rudy Punzalan who brought the team’s series to 796.
The initial encounter was encouraging for week’s top award, yet D’Amigos quartet failed to maintain the rhythm of their pendulum swing. After meeting walls of splits on the second set (11 points), they tried to accelerate on the final bend (14 points) but the frames ran short for them to recover. D’Amigos scored 66 points including the 19 rank points for their series of 2550. Otra Cosa went home with 32 points.
Seiko triumvirate of Danny Guela, Vic Santos and Rene Martinez controlled Al Alamiah at the start in spite of the outstanding performances of Insekto star bowler Hashim Guinomla, who was packing solid strikes and scored 258. Seiko shot 868 for 21 points while Al Alamiah swept 752 (9 points).
On the second set, Al Alamiah trio of Nonie Yap (221) Sid Lapena (210) and League chairman Arnold C. Alday (177) assisted Guinomla (266) in avenging their initial defeat. The quartet blasted the lanes with series of strikes and submitted a series of 874 (19 points). Although Danny Guela was searing the lanes with eight strikes for a big 258, he failed to gain the support of his peers. Seiko trailed by almost five marks behind the Insektos, posted a total of 827 for 13.5 points.
Al Alamiah bowled with all their might on the final stretch. Guinomla shot 233, Alday fired 228, Yap swiped 220 and Lapena hit 206. Their series of 888 scored 21 points. Seiko capitalized on the pair of Martinez (212) and Ycasas (214) while Guela bogged down after meeting several splits. The Japanese watchmakers swept 791 for 10 points.
Abudawood Trading Est. and Libby’s Hot Line put up decisive thrilling games on Lanes 17 and 18 that caught the attention of the crowd.
The exchange of marks was fast on game one. Lindo Villanueva, Hero Garcia, Emil Payongayong and Felix Julaton shot solid strikes and posted aplenty of marks for Abudawood Trading (857). The triumvirate of Joey Salvador, Mar Narvasa and Vera Verasak of Libby’s Hot Line equally pounded the lanes but bowler Jimboy Almoro bogged down and hit a low 147. Libby’s was short by one pin (856). Abudawood traded 19 points; Libby’s scored 18.
On the second game, Almoro found the right spot and improved his mark to 184 while Salvador, Verasak and Narvasa were consistent with their pendulum swings. After the grueling exchange of marks, Libby’s posted a series of 873 for 18 points. Abudawood’s Julaton went wild in drilling enormous strikes, scored a whooping 259 but he failed to gather the support of Payongayong (158) and Villanueva (169). The ‘traders’ merely scored 844 (16 points).
On The final game, Payongayong single handided led the ‘traders’ in the assault. He shot 8 strikes for a big 258. Unfortunately, Villanueva rolled-off miserably and hit a low 159. Garcia, who was playing good games earlier, hit 170; while Julaton fired erratic shots, from a high game of 259, he delivered merely 179. Equipped with a 57-pin team handicap, Abudawood submitted 12 points (823).
The pair of Salvador and Narvasa responded to the marks inflected to them by Payongayong. The duo sizzled on the six remaining frames, fired 216 and 215, respectively, and brought their series to 831 including the 64-pin team handicap. The strong performances of the duo delivered 15 points for Libby’s.
Top Gun bowlers Ruben Medina, Bert Tuvera, Leo Edejer and Rudy Valenzuela gunned down solid strikes and left Guess? team with piles of hundreds of pins. The quartet scored 78 points after bombarding the opponent with the totals of 853 (17 points), 903 (21) and 862 (19). Guess? foursome of Gil Ordonez, Danny de Guzman, Ariel Ureuia and Vhoi Ycong retaliated sporadically and was able to collect 29 points after delivering 751 (8), 832 (14) and 691 (2 points).
Frontrunner Sky Freight Forwarders stood true to their billing, this week they routed Sarawat Aces throughout the match. Sky Freight crated 65 points when Cris Villavelez, Rene Santiago, Fred Monzon and Nestor Quiteves unloaded 2518 pins. Their scores were 859, 795, 864.
Sarawat Aces skippered by Rally Zamora pocketed 53 points after Jun Cabral, Odjie Sagcal, Dante Rivero and Zamora carded a series of 2486 pins, equivalent to 14 rank points. Sarawat hit the lines of 11 points (784 pins), 10 (809) and 18 points at 846.
N-Ball (50) outscored PICPA-PRO (39) when team captain Alex Tabusares led his men in scoring 896 (20 points) on the second game and 803 (11) on the final set after a poor showing at the start (6 points). Lavern Laderas, Nap de Guzman and Bien Hermosura supported Tabusares to victory.
Hashim Guinomla has now submitted his 9th entry card (258) to the BBG Elite Club. New entrants during the week were Felix Julaton (259), Emil Payongayong (258) and Danny Guela (258).
Allan Sanoza of the Power Strikers won a special prize for making a strike without first hitting the headpin. Danny Manriza of D’Amigos also won a special prize for converting into spare the 4-7-10 split.
