JEDDAH, 11 December — A.M. Quamrul Hasan Khondker is the new Western Province manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. He succeeds Ahmad Kamal who will be returning to the airline’s Dhaka headquarters as deputy general manager marketing and sales.
Khondker, who arrived a week ago, earlier served the airline’s Abu Dhabi station for a year and a half. “This market is a new challenge and I’ve come fully prepared for it,” he told Arab News during an iftar hosted by the airline at the Al Salam Holiday Inn Hotel on Sunday. Biman operates weekly four flights from Jeddah and four others from Riyadh — one of them via Dhahran. It serves 26 destinations worldwide with its fleet of six DC-10s and 4 A-310s. Its domestic operations are done by two F-28s. The airline also has Mohammed Salim as the new station manager and Mamdud Khan as the new operating manager in Jeddah. Kamal said: “I’ll be leaving the Kingdom after two years of my term with pleasant memories.”
Kamal began his career 36 years ago with PIA as its public relations officer in Karachi. He was the founding country manager of Biman in North America and was stationed in New York in 1992-93. “Biman had just two weekly flights when I assumed charge, but the frequency has been increased to four flights since last year,” he said. Saudi Arabian Airlines operates nine flights every week to Dhaka from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran.
