JEDDAH, 24 December — A Saudi killed his 60-year-old mother and dumped her body in a village in Baha in the southwestern part of the Kingdom, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Police sources said the murder was committed by the 30-year-old son on Friday in Baha.

The man and his mother, both residents of Taif, 200 km northeast of Jeddah, went to visit his sister in Baha on Eid Al-Fitr last week.

After dumping the body at a deserted area in a valley or ravine on the Baha-Taif road, the alleged murderer sped on to his native village in Taif.

After receiving a tip-off from witnesses, police searched both sides of the Baha-Taif road and branch roads but were unable to find the body.

Baha police, who arrested the alleged murderer at Al-Hawiyah village in Taif governorate on Friday with the help of the Taif police, hope to recover the dead body with the help of the accused.

The report did not identify the man nor did it say how the murder was committed.

Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Sinaidi, police director in Baha, has formed a special task force under Col. Abdul Aziz Al-Shahari, city policy director, to investigate the crime that shocked the residents in the region, according to Okaz newspaper.

On the eve of Eid Al-Fir, a man in Jamoum in the Makkah province shot his five-year-old daughter dead and seriously wounded his six-year-old son before attempting to kill himself.

In another incident, the Baha police discovered the body of a young man in a football ground in the city suburb. Ali Ramadan, 18, had been missing for the several days.

The coroner’s report revealed severe bruising to his body and cited the cause of death as a severe loss of blood. The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday.
