RIYADH, 11 January — The Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR) will organize a One-Day Farewell Bowling Tournament for Aloy Mier this coming Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. The games will start at 7:30 in the evening.
Mier, the newly crowned FOBR Winter Games masters champion will finally say "adieu" to his fellow bowlers on Jan. 23. Mier has been in the Kingdom for more than ten (10) years and has been connected with the SAM. Mier, considered as one of the elite bowlers in the City of Riyadh will always remembered the camaraderie extended to him by his fellow bowlers.
"It hurts to say good-bye and surely, I will always treasure the happy moments and friendship I got not only from my fellow bowlers but also from my other friends", Mier said.
In the format, the tournament is open to all male and female bowlers. Female bowlers will be given a twenty handicaps per game.
Handicaps for male bowlers are as follows: Class A-0, Class B-4, Class C-8 and Class D-12. Bowlers regardless of their classification will play a six-game series with handicap to determine the top six players. The top six players will play one-game series with handicap each in the stepladder match via knockout system.
The first match will be between Finishers No. 4, 5 and 6 and the winner in this match will play against the finishers number 2 and 3. Winner in this match will challenge the top finisher. The top finisher should be beaten twice by the challenger to be declared champion. Entry per player is SR100.
The champion will receive a brand new color television set donated by Brotherhood Bowling Group Chairman, Arnold Alday and his family and trophy. Runners-up and high game scratch holder will receive cash prize.
Fun game prizes donated by McDonalds through Dick Segovia and Ed Sesperes will be awarded to the bowlers who will convert four consecutive strikes in a row.
The OFWBR organizing committee officials will personally hand over to Aloy Mier the cash or gift item at the resumption of the Giordano "Payanigan" Wednesday Bowling League on Jan. 16.
Meanwhile, the opening day of the OFWBR "Paistaran" Monday Bowling League is set to start on January 28, 2002 at the Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. A total of fourteen (14) teams will be seen-in action in this event.
There will be a video coverage during the opening day which will be forwarded to the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) for airing at TFC’s The Global Filipino (TGF).
Participating teams — Strike Zone of Larry Mondoy and Noli Ritual, D’Alleygators captained by Rolly Manalang, the Vision 2 of Alex Bandoy, the fancied ABB All Stars team mentored by Ramon Teodoro, D’Camouflage team to be bannered by Unicap Chairman, Art Basilio Capulong, the star studded Ang Ajax team of AJ Bonifacio, the Bicol Express of Rizal Dellosa, D’Hunks captained by Rod Basilio, the newcomer team, the King Abdulaziz Medical City Bowlers to be headed by Ms. Francis Gloria, D’Bros. Ltd. Team of Benny Quebral, the Ariba-Arabia II of Alvin Reyes, the powerhouse Thrashers team of Art Esguerra and the Coolebraz of Donjie Mapalad.
