IDB aid for Sudan telecom expansion

JEDDAH, 30 January — Islamic Development Bank’s agency for private sector development yesterday granted a loan of $8 million to the Sudanese telecommunication company (Sudatel) for the expansion of telephone services to cover 33 cities and village in the country.

Dr. Ali Sulaiman, the agency’s executive chairman, and Abdul Latif Abdul Qader, Sudatel deputy director general, signed the loan agreement. The agency, with a capital of $500 million capital, was set up by the IDB in 1999 to support projects in member countries.
