ABHA, 1 February — The 3rd AQS Pepsi-Cola cricket tournament came to a conclusion in a colorful prize distribution ceremony held recently at Trident Hotel Khamis Mushayt. The tournament was exclusive sponsored by Abdul Hadi Abdullah Al Qahtani & Sons Ltd. Pepsi Cola Co.
The tournament was the most successful in the region in terms number of teams participated as well as professionally organized. There were 40 teams participated in the tournament this year. The games were held at Pepsi Cricket ground spanned for nearly 2 months.
Al Nimas cricket club bagged the champions trophy by defeating last year’s winners Bin Arif cricket club. Asia Star cricket club claimed third spot.
The chief guest of the event was Misfer Ali Al Shimrani, senior deputy managing director of Pepsi Cola Co., who in his speech thanked the chairman of the AQS Sports Committee Mir Yawar Ali and G.V. Rao, vice chairman for their efforts and dedication in creating sporting environment within AQS staff and the whole community across the southern region of KSA.
Glittering trophies were distributed to the winning teams as well as to outstanding players. Centurymaker of the tournament trophy was given to Akram of Pak Kashmir team. Fastest 50 trophy was awarded to Bisharat of Young Star, Abha. Best Bowler of the Tournament award was shared by two bowlers Junaid from Asia Star and Abid form KSCC. Best Batsman of the Tournament was Irfan of Al Namas team. Man-of-the-series award was given to M. Sheikh of Pak Star cricket club.
A lage gathering of people including families were attended the function, the program was compered by Hasan Naqvi, marketing manager of Pepsi. A colorful part of the function was the farewell given to G.V. Rao, vice chairman of AQS Pepsi sports committee and MIS manager for his contribution to various sports activities and community work. A number of momentos were presented to him from the community by Karate Club and Asir Indian Association.
