JEDDAH, 7 February — The anti-fraud squad of the Ministry of Commerce seized large quantities of foodstuffs unfit for human consumption, imitation auto parts and other products during surprise raids on a number of commercial establishments in Riyadh early this week.

During their inspections of shops and warehouses, the officials seized 100,00 packets of food products and 9,225 pieces of auto parts, Abdul Ali Al-Abdul Ali, director of the anti-fraud department, told Al-Watan newspaper.

The foodstuffs seized from a warehouse in Al-Faisaliah district had passed expiry date three years ago. The warehouse had been under observation for one week. Officials also discovered a bakery operating clandestinely on the upper floor of the warehouse.

The imitation spare parts seized from a workshop were labeled as genuine parts for cars of leading manufacturers. All the shops involved in the illegal activities were sealed and their owners were taken into custody.
