Injured pilgrims in Ahsa recovering

AHSA, 15 February — The nine people injured in the tragic accident that claimed 40 lives on Wednesday were showing signs of recovery, but two were still on the critical list, hospital authorities revealed.

The accident occurred when the bus with more than 60 pilgrims from the United Arab Emirates, collided head-on with a truck carrying heavy material. Thirty-seven Pakistanis were among the 40 pilgrims killed.

Meanwhile, authorities have released the names of the injured in the accident. According to the administrator of King Fahd Hospital here, the nine injured were stable and showing signs of improvement. However, two of them continue to be on the critical list.

Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, a police officer at the Salwa Police Station which is investigating the case, said the Dubai-based Al Shammar Haj contractor was transporting pilgrims. The Dubai-registered bus belonged to Ibn Al Bahar Rent-a-Car.

According to a source in Al-Ain, most of the pilgrims were from the Pakistani cities of Multan, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The source said that the UAE Ministry of Defense sponsored the pilgrimage of the victims and they were all working as technicians in the ministry. Identification of the dead has been delayed because the charred bodies are beyond recognition and almost all their documents have perished in the fire which had engulfed the vehicles after the collision.

The UAE government is trying to contact the kins of the victims of the accident in Pakistan and the UAE. Arrangements are being made to transport the bodies to UAE or Pakistan.

Following are the names of the injured admitted at the King Fahd Hospital: Muhammad Arif, 41, Khalid Musa, 41, Sardar Khan Khulam, 40, Muhammad Amin, 50, Naseer Ahmad, 40, Amanat Ali, 38, Khaleel Ahmad 29, Mansoor Ali, 46, and Muhammad Latif Khan, 44.
