BURAIDAH, 23 February — A false police complaint by a father has resulted in his daughter’s divorce.

Al-Jazira newspaper reported that a father complained to the police that his son-in-law had locked himself up in a room with a revolver and threatened to commit suicide.

Acting on the complaint, the police drove to the specified address in this central Saudi city and what they saw was to the contrary, the report said.

The son-in-law opened the door with a big smile and did not possess any weapon, the report added.

The police told him that they responded to a complaint filed by his father-in-law. The father-in-law in turn said he plotted against his son-in-law with a false complaint because his daughter was subjected to constant beating and harassment by her husband.

The enraged son-in-law pronounced divorce in the presence of the police and his divorced wife drove home with her father.
