RIYADH, 15 March — Care Card XI won the Arabian Cup 2002 softball cricket tournament by beating Mawarid Group by 27 runs at RCA-4 grounds in a thrilling encounter.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first inspite of Hussain Khan’s deadly spell, Care Card XI amassed a mammoth 169 in the stipulated 20 overs losing 9 wickets.
Mohsin Bin Buraik made 38 while Rauf scored 22 and Imtiaz Alam contributed 26 to Care Card XI scores. For Mawarid Group, Hussain Khan bowled superbly and took 6 wickets conceding 25 runs while Mirza Muffassir Baig supported him well by snapping 2 wickets giving away 31 runs.
Chasing a difficult target Mawarid Group started badly losing their opener on the very first ball through run out. At one stage Mawarid Group lost 4 wickets at the score 21 but fifth wicket stand of 53 runs between Syed Naqi and Shahab gave respectability to the Mawarid Groups total.
Shahab made 33 and Syed Naqi 19 while Mirza Muffassir Baig remained not out on 20. Mawarid Group finished their allotted 20 overs scoring 143.
Six teams Dar C.C., Hyderabad XI, Consulting C.C., Care Card XI, United C.C. and Mawarid Group participated in the tournament and were divided into two groups with three teams in each group. Syed Ehtesham Siddiqui organized the tournament.
