JEDDAH, 22 March — Abudawood’s Emil Payongayong nearly hit a perfect game to lift his team to a 2,479-2,331 win over International while sharing the limelight with unheralded Bicol Saro. The latter caused uproar via a gigantic upset over league-leading D’Falcon in last week’s blistering bowling action at the Panther Energy Drink Sunday kegfest at the Jeddah Bowling Center.

Payongayong stitched an aggregate three-game series 686 and narrowly missed the SR1,000 bounty from Panther Drink when he missed pin number six on a roll of his first bonus ball for the highest carded game of 290. He had earlier excited the crowd with nine consecutive strikes. The effort however, netted him half of the jackpot SR750 prize along with Otra Cosa’s more illustrious kegler Jun Pilipina who carded 279 as reward for breaching 269 pinfalls.

The foursome of Benjie Cils, Jun Palacios, Arnold Biblanas and Jimmy Lumbrea of Bicol Saro combined for 2,439 pinfalls as they caught top-favorites D’Falcon, who had a measly 2,197 total, on a wrong foot. Cils and Palacios conspired to wreak havoc against their rivals when the duo bowled 258 and 211, respectively in their third game. Cils led the matchup with a three-game series 650 while Ding Abaygar offered the stiffest resistance from among the D’Falcons with 602.

Tired of being frowned as a doormat, Bicol Saro jumpstarted to a 766-689 lead in the first frame taking advantage of a low 147 first game output of Jun Lasaga who was erstwhile averaging 201 pinfalls in 51 games played. Bicol Saro’s Lumbrea and D’Falcons Lasaga actually negated each other’s performance as both carded 521 pinfalls for their respective teams but as Cils lorded over Abaygar so did Palacios getting the better of Danny Bautista, 600 as against 555 pinfalls.

J. Pilipina burned the lanes with a high 718 three-game series making up for the dismal 497 carded by fellow Otra Cosa kegler Ver Luz as Hashim Guinomla and Ador Torres lent solid back-up with 628 and 598 to turn back the Jeddah Bowlers, 2,459-2,240. The Jeddah Bowlers anchored by Tariq Tuwaireb, Abdullah Harbi, Jafer Al Katere and Ahmed Hobani only came alive in the third canto with 756 as Turaiq scored 246 but their low combined scores of 678 and 710 in the first two sessions buried them deep.

Lindo Villanueva, Rey Abeygar and Hero Garcia submitted total scores of 600, 577 and 547 to complement Payongayong who redeemed himself after a low 178 second-game output. Eddie Tuico who had a three-game series 668 on the other hand, paced International while his teammates Bob Oleski, Pancho Cuevas and Verasakdi pinned 553, 525 and 457.

Panther Energy Drink distributed by Marrot Jizan Co. represented by its general manager Abdullah Bashwari is the principal sponsor of this kegfest organized by the Jeddah Bowling League (JBL) led by its chairman Engr. Odjie Sagcal, technical head Rally Zamora and secretary-treasurer Igna Salgado. Other sponsors are Sarawat Superstores, Green Farms Alesayi and Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.
