ALKHOBAR, 22 March — At least 40 Filipino electrical engineers in the Eastern Province have completed a 25-hour technical workshop on Power System Design and Analysis.
Organized by the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. — Eastern Region Chapter, Saudi Arabia (IIEE-ERCSA), the technical workshop spread over four weekends ended last Friday.
Chapter spokesman Romeo Navidad the participants from various fields such as design, construction, sales, and maintenance took part in the workshop that was held in the International Philippine School of Alkhobar (IPSA).
Benigno S. Jimenez, a licensed professional electrical engineer (PEE) with decades of design and academic experience conducted the seminar.
Navidad said the seminar is part of the continuing professional education being conducted by the IIEE for its members. Based in Manila, the IIEE has chapters also in the central and western regions of the Kingdom.
Navidad said those hwo have yet to join the IIEE may want to take advantage of another technical to be held at the Jubail Intercontinental Hotel on April 5.
Another PEE, Art Evangelista, will conduct the seminar titled “Substation Protective Relaying.”
Fluor Arabia and National Contracting Company are to sponsor the activity.
Three manufacturing companies in Dammam and Dhahran, meanwhile, played host to the chapter’s executive committee by hosting plant visits for them.
The group first visited the Dhahran plant of National Pipe Company, Ltd. (NPC), whose work force is composed mostly of Filipinos.
NPC management headed by Ryuchi Imai, senior production manager; Leopoldo P. Modelo, administrative manager; and Camilo Zacate, senior general supervisor of production department, showed the delegation its modern longitudinal seam pipe manufacturing process.
The delighted engineers saw the facility that produces equality pipes ranging from 18 inches to 64 inches (5 feet, 4 inches) in diameter, highlighted by witnessing of hydrostatic pressure testing and automatic ultrasonic inspection testing of new 64-inch pipe.
The group then proceeded to USG Middle East, Ltd. factory in Dammam Industrial City, where USG’s general sales manager, Maher Marji, warmly welcomed them. The company, which specializes in acoustical and specialty ceiling systems, also pledged their full support in upcoming activities of the chapter.
