337,700 infiltrators arrested in a year

RIYADH, 18 April — The border guards arrested 337,700 infiltrators in the 12 months ending March 2002, Lt. Gen. Talal Angawi, commander of the Border Guard, has said. The guards also arrested 4,367 smugglers and confiscated 2,321 kilograms of hashish, 400,000 pills and 3.2 million kilograms of qat. Angawi said the border guards also seized 4.1 million firearms, various types of ammunition and some 176,000 sticks of dynamite, along with more than 14,000 bottles of liquor. In the previous year, the guards arrested 378,000 infiltrators and 3,400 smugglers.
