RIYADH, 3 May — The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSH&RC) team led by towering cager Angelo Eusebio found themselves on the lucky side of the road after trashing the Communication Group team of brilliant cager-turned-coach Danny Bugayong in the continuing games of the Jeraisy Group of Companies First Open Inter-Company Basketball League at the Jeraisy Staff Compound Basketball Court, Exit 7 every Thursday and Friday.
Eusebio served the first and the last basket for his team notwithstanding his share for 27 points, 14 reigning tower rebounds, two steals, a shot block record in the tournament’s spreadsheet and a constant pulse one-hand shot from the commencement to the conclusion of the ballgame.
KFSH&RC defense reinforced by towers Vince Navales, Clemente Gonzales and Melvin Velasco put pressure to their opponent’s ability to shoot from the distant during the first quarter. Joel Payot of the Communication Group team showed good form of reverse layups and shooting skill from three-point lane while Elmer Bandal displayed his expertise in basketball giving excitement once drove to the basket. During the third canto, Elmer Bandal brought the first deadlock at 44-all with his nice penetration move at 6:10 mins. left but, Clemente Gonzales stopped the Communication Group team’s goal to divert the lead in their favor ending the third quarter with 11 points margin in their favor. A technical foul was committed by the Communication Group team during the last 30 seconds left in the ballgame which came during the time that coach Gannie Gabriel boyz needed it most aside from the charity shots unconverted by their opponents paving the way for them to grab their first win in two outings with the final score recorded at 74-72.
The Meed Pulz team of coach Dan Guina, with thoroughbred cagers in the likes of Dave Mallari, Ed Manansala, Leo Nebres, Eduard Abueg, and Larry De Guzman once again showed their winning competence after highlighting their 2-0 win-loss record in a 21 points advantage match courtesy of TFC-Metro Bank team of Joel Magpantay and Marlon Hernandez, 87-66.
Though undermanned with only eight cagers during the first quarter, TFC-Metro Bank team confidently went down the fray, managed to stay put and tally scores at 8-8 during the middle part of this quarter. Dave Mallari, Eduard Abueg, Leo Nebres, and Dick Jacinto of the Meed Pulz displayed teamwork with their assists, power rebounds and shooting powers from all corners during the second canto, Paul Reyes gave excitement to the crowd manipulating assists and nice form of drives while cheers came around every time Ed Manansala move with his favorite reverse lay-ups.
Height isn’t a hindrance for TFC’s Butch Jose (sporting No. 9 jersey) to top score his team as he brought spirit to his teammates with steals and quick moves to basket during the third and fourth quarters. Teammates Marlon Hernandez and Wilson Avellanoza exerted their full efforts to defend their team using their skills in shooting and power rebounding. Playing team manager Joel Magpantay converted a point less than his jersey number.
Supremacy is the name of the game as the Yamama Adawliah team of Joe Dela Cruz & Lito Gutierrez and the Manila Plaza (Luzviminda) team of Ghasan Attiya and Roger Bajenting battled for the 5th occasions, but this time through the coaching of Armel Trambulo who had yet to familiarize with the position and movements of his squad. Yamama Adawliah’s center Jeff Baybay and center/forward Rey Manigbas contributed scores shooting from the outside while Julius Morales, Ric Paraiso and Cyrus Ruiz became unstoppable in their penetration drives plus the services rendered by John de Leon who opted to concentrate on the defense of his team. Though Manila Plaza’s center Jun Reyes used his height for power rebounds and Jun Soriano, Elmer Cano, Ganie Baldomero, Charlie Dela Rosa, and Ding Natanauan combined their efforts to the fullest from the second to the final quarter, these actions were not enough to divert the score in their favor as the match ended with 97-82 score in Yamama Adawliah’s favor.
Earlier, the Metrostar team successfully attained their goal to stop the Jeraisy Furniture team in their bid for a second win, 82-57. This win awarded the former their 2-0 win-loss record made possible by Gary Maquilan, Rustom Chavez, Eric Villatema, Rodel Dagupion, and Jonathan delos Santos through the proper fielding of cagers of playing coach Wally Talens. Coach Recto Marquez of the Jeraisy Furniture team banked on the abilities of his ace cagers Alex Cerro, Fernando Cuizon, Rey Valencia, Khaled Hamouri, Joselito de Dios, and Roy Digo but failed to defuse Metrostar’s winning formula concluding the game with 25 points margin in Metrostar’s favor.
