HAIL, 9 May — Security authorities on Tuesday arrested a Saudi gunman for allegedly storming into the Hail governorate one-and-a-half hours before the end of official working hours.

Police overpowered the man within minutes after he entered the building wielding a gun, a press statement from the governorate said. The man entered the building in a bid to escape from police, who were trying to arrest him.

Abdul Rahman Al-Johani, director of public relations at the governorate, told Arab News that the man was suffering from psychological problems.

Hail Governor Prince Saud ibn Abdul Mohsen and his deputy have been closely following the incident.

Robbery in broad daylight: In another incident, police in Jeddah arrested four Sri Lankan expatriates for allegedly taking SR100,000 from a Djibouti national at gunpoint, Okaz newspaper reported yesterday.

"The four Sri Lankans took more than SR100,000 from Awad Abdu Nasir, after opening fire at him," the paper said.

The report added that the gang members were following Nasir, who works for an oil distribution company, while he was collecting money from petrol stations.

"When Nasir was going in his car to deposit the money in a bank, a Sri Lankan taxi driver deliberately caused an accident to block the road," the paper said.

"At this point the gang members opened fire at Nasir, took the money from him and ran away, leaving him in a pool of blood," the paper said.

Jeddah patrol police and officers from the crime investigation division acted swiftly at the directives of Brig. Saleh Al-Olayan, director of police in the city, to track down the criminals.

The Red Crescent Society also acted promptly to save the life of Nasir. Its officers took him to hospital where doctors removed a bullet that had pierced his stomach.
