RIYADH, 10 May — Carrier and Young Friends lifted the Shield and Plate 20 overs Saudi Hollandi Bank Cup by beating Mehran and Al-Eid XI in the finals at the RCA grounds.
In Shield finals at RCA-2 ground, Carrier, helped by established and prolific opening pair of Kashif M. Khan and Syed Hasnain, amassed a respectable total of 198 for 5 in their stipulated 20 overs. Kashif M. Khan scored a fine 50 with 3 fours and 2 sixes while Syed Hasnain topscored with a brilliant 80 which was studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes. The other notable scorer was Rizwan Qayyum with 29. Chasing the target, Mehran started badly and lost wickets at regular interval. Carrier’s spin duo of Mohammed Mouzzam and Asif Kazmi bowled well and restricted Mehran to 157 for 9 in their allotted overs. Syed Hasnain was later adjudged "man-of-the-match" for his brilliant batting.
In an exciting Plate finals at RCA-3 ground, Young Friends helped by Amjad Latif’s fine batting and excellent fielding overwhelmed Al-Eid XI by 4 runs to lift the Plate SHB Cup. Batting first, Young Friends scored a mammoth 207 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Amjad Latif scored a fine 63 with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. Afzal Pasha 37 and Khalid Quraishi 38 were also amongst the runs for Young Friends. For Al-Eid XI, Khawar and Mustafa took 2 wickets each conceding 25 and 24 runs respectively. In reply, Al-Eid XI started well and at one time cruising well along with Adnan Majeed and Asif Zaki going great guns and the score read 143 for 1. After the departure of Asif Zaki, Al-Eid XI lost the momentum and wickets crumbled at regular interval and they finished their allotted overs scoring 203 losing 8 wickets. Adnan Majeed scored a sparkling unbeaten 93 with 8 fours while Asif Zaki scored 60 with 4 hits to the fence. Adnan Majeed was declared "man-of-the-match" for his brilliant innings. (Syed Taqiuddin)
