JEDDAH, 14 May — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd yesterday lauded the remarkable achievement made by Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, in taking the voice and views of Arabs to the American leadership.
Addressing the weekly session of the Council of Ministers here, King Fahd also noted the crown prince’s efforts during his meeting with US President George W. Bush in his Texas ranch last month to highlight the real situation in the Middle East.
The Cabinet meeting reviewed the outcome of Prince Abdullah’s historic visit during which he presented the Saudi and Arab standpoint on the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
"Prince Abdullah also presented the ideas of the Kingdom and other Arab states for realizing peace in the Middle East and expressed the desire of the Arab world to achieve a just and comprehensive settlement," Information Minister Dr. Fouad Al-Farsy told Saudi Press Agency after the meeting.
Al-Farsy said the crown prince also briefed the Cabinet on the outcome of the tripartite talks he held with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh during the weekend.
In other developments, the Cabinet meeting authorized Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, or his deputy to sign a memorandum of understanding with Yemen on the management of toxic garbage.
The meeting assigned Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency, or his deputy to hold talks with Palestinian officials on reaching an agreement for cooperation in sports and youth welfare activities.
Al-Farsy said the Cabinet endorsed an agreement with Austria for the promotion and protection of investments. The agreement was signed in Riyadh on June 30 last year.
The Cabinet appointed Abdullah Zainal Alireza, Abdul Rahman Al-Jeraisy, Khaled Al-Zamil, Abdullah Al-Bazie, Fahd Al-Saadoun and Abdul Rahman Al-Mazi as members of the board of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technological Regions.
It also appointed Turki ibn Muhammad Al-Mulafikh as director of civil status in the Makkah Region, and Ahmad ibn Hamza Bedaiwi as director of the commerce minister’s office.
Meanwhile, Prince Abdullah received a number of princes, Islamic scholars and ministers who came to greet him on his safe return after a foreign tour which took him to Lebanon, Morocco, the United States and Egypt.
